Welcome to Las Vegas Reception

Sunday, December 3rd 2017 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Concorde Ballroom

To help recognize the 50th anniversary of the small industry meeting in the late summer of 1967 in Milwaukee that led to the creation of the International Council of Air Shows, this year’s convention welcome reception will be organized under a 1967 Summer of Love theme. Largely focused on events and activities in San Francisco and London, the Summer of Love included the Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, tie-dye, hippies, Timothy Leary, and San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair) by the Mammas and the Papa. But the summer and fall of 1967 also included an escalation of the war in Vietnam and protests against the war at home, the marriage of Elvis and Priscilla Presley, the centennial of Canadian Confederation, the Six-Day War in the Middle East, and the first heart transplant by Dr. Christiaan Barnard in Cape Town, South Africa on the very same day as our welcome reception in Las Vegas.
